The Mill Creek Canyon and Earthworks Park Framework Plan represents a first step towards a long-term reinvestment plan into the park to repair and replace failing infrastructure, improve connectivity to the surrounding neighborhoods, and increase recreational opportunities.

Starting in 2022, Park Planning and Development staff have been working with Mithun (consultant) to create the Framework Plan. The planning process involves analyzing previous planning efforts, studying the surrounding community and adjacent infrastructure, and creating a road map for future improvements. Through these processes, the planning team is creating a future vision for this park that increases community connectivity, improves the trail network, and create a gateway between downtown and East Hill.

The public was asked to give us their ideas about what they wanted to see and how they would like to use the park. The input we received helped us in the development of the Framework Plan.

The Mill Creek Canyon and Earthworks Frameworks Plan is finished and available below for you to read! Thank you for all your comments and participation.

  • CLOSED: This survey has concluded.

Mill Creek Canyon Earthworks Park is a valued community resource and yet, many people do not know it is there.  Park investments over the next ten years will be made to increase access, use and visibility.  Your thoughts about what investments will support greater use of the canyon and park by you, your neighbors and community will inform the City’s choices.  Thank you for sharing your ideas and your time in filling out this survey.

The first round of community engagement gathered 368 responses in Kent.  Based on this engagement, the framework plan ideas focus on the trail network, trailhead and creek crossing improvements; access; safety; children’s play; access to nature; and recreation programming.

This orientation and ideas map shows the proposed trail network and priority improvement areas.  Public art, native plantings and artful stormwater in the priority improvement areas can create visibility and awareness for the whole canyon and park.
